Comet P40 Collector Retrofit Kit – Installation Guide
If you're upgrading your Comet P40 pump for use with a gas engine, proper installation of the Collector Retrofit Kit is essential for reliable performance.
This guide walks you through the tools, components, and initial installation steps required to replace the existing collector and regulator assembly on your Comet P40 pump.
Whether you're a professional pressure washing contractor or an equipment technician, following the manufacturer's installation instructions will help ensure your equipment is assembled correctly.

Tools Required
Before beginning installation, gather the following tools:
-
13mm and 14mm sockets
-
13mm and 14mm wrenches
-
6mm hex key
-
#8 Phillips-head screwdriver
Components Included in the Retrofit Kit
The Comet P40 Collector Retrofit Kit includes the following components:
| Component | Quantity | Part Number |
|---|---|---|
| Collector | 1 | 10002-14670-R |
| Regulator | 1 | 42001-00838 |
| Foot | 1 | 00071-05557 |
| Spacers | 2 | 33-103009 |
| 3-inch Hex Bolts | 6 | 33-100110 |
Verify that all components are included before beginning installation.
Step 1: Remove the Existing Regulator
1. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver, remove the four screws securing the existing regulator to the pump.
2. Carefully detach the regulator assembly.
3. Important: The original regulator will no longer be used with the retrofit kit.
Step 2: Remove the Existing Collector
1. Using a 13mm socket, remove the 12 bolts securing the existing collector to the pump.
2. Set the bolts aside, as they will be reused when installing the new collector.
3. Important: Ensure the O-rings and pistons remain inside their respective cylinders during removal. Take care not to damage or displace these components.
Step 3: Install the New Collector (Manifold)
1. Align the new molded one-piece collector onto the front of the Comet P40 pump.
2. Insert the new 3-inch hex bolts and spacers provided in the kit. Note that longer bolts typically go on the outside positions and shorter ones in the middle sections
3. Hand-tighten or snug the bolts down evenly using a screw gun or socket.
4. Apply a final torque of 11 Newton-meters (Nm). Do not overtighten the bolts, as they thread directly into the plastic/polypropylene body
Step 4: Mount the New Steel Pump Foot
1. Position the new steel pump foot (mounting bracket) onto the bottom of the pump assembly using the designated mounting holes.
2. Secure the bracket tightly with the provided hardware using your wrench and socket set.
Step 5: Install the New Pressure Regulator
1. Attach the new adjustable pressure regulator onto the new collector block.
2. Secure using the supplied hardware and tighten evenly to prevent leaks.
Step 6: Reconnect Plumbing and Test
1. Reconnect your 1-inch suction/inlet hose, the 3/4" high-pressure outlet line, and the 3/4" bypass loop. Make sure all hose clamps and barbs are tight.
2. Confirm the system has the correct oil levels in the pump crankcase (SAE 30W non-detergent oil) before firing up the engine.
3. Prime the pump completely with water before starting the gas engine to prevent dry-running or air lock.
4. Start the engine at a low idle, allow air bubbles to clear through the bypass/rinse lines, and check carefully for any leaks
Why Proper Installation Matters
Correct installation of the collector retrofit kit helps maintain the integrity of the pump assembly and supports dependable equipment operation.
Following the manufacturer's recommended procedures also reduces the risk of damaged seals, improper component alignment, and unnecessary downtime.
